Since I was a little girl, I’ve always had the kind of imagination that could take me all over the world and I could be anything I desired. Whether I was an ancient Polynesian princess or a kickass ninja warrior, I felt powerful enough to dream big. Growing up, I learned that society created systems of limitations on people’s dreams and creativity that even in our ideas we have to be “realistic”. As a black woman, we shouldn’t even dare to “think” it. Well I say to hell with that. I’ve had many career paths in the past that it doesn’t seem human. I’ve been a waitress, a retailer, a dental assistant, a teacher, a life coach, a yoga instructor, and don’t get me started on how many times I’ve changed my college major. From business to art, to business again to psychology. Im practically superwoman, and that’s exactly what I intend to be. You see in the midst of my multiple career endeavors, I discovered who I truly am, what I deserve, and what I won’t settle for anymore. I found myself and I learned that I am forever growing and changing. I don’t have the same passions I did when I was 18 or 21. Change is scary but once you get to the other side of change it’s actually pretty freakin awesome. Photography and writing are my passions, for now. I enjoy the rush I feel and splurge of creativity when I’m creating stories or bringing my visions to life. You see, sometimes you have to feed into those “ideas” because you never know where they just might take you. Even if it won’t last a long time. It doesn’t hurt to try.
